2017 Annual Subscriptions

We’re approaching mid-March and a number of members have still not paid their annual club subscriptions.  Club rules dictate that the membership of persons who have not paid their subscriptions by 31 March will be regarded as lapsed.

In order to avoid difficulties for members and the club, members who have not paid their 2017 subscriptions are asked to do so before the end of this month.  Membership fees for 2017 are unchanged and are:

Ordinary members: £15

Second claim members: £7.50

Junior members: £7.50

Payment may be made to me in person by cash or cheque payable to ‘Rotherham Wheelers Cycling Club’ or by electronic transfer (club bank account details available from me on request).

2017 Prudential Ride London – British Cycling Club Challenge

Anyone interested in being the 4th member of a 4 man RWCC team to enter the 2017 Prudential Ride London British Cycling Team Challenge? Duncan Colgrave, Len Richards and I are all interested. The event is on Sunday 30 July and is open for online team entries tomorrow (Monday 27 February).

In order to enter, all team members must be members of RWCC and also paid up members of British Cycling. Entry costs £69 per team member.

A team comprises four riders & can comprise four men or four women or a mixed team of two men and two women

Riders who hold an Elite or Category 1 British Cycling Race Licence are not eligible to enter the Club Challenge

Riders who have already secured an individual place through the original entry ballot or a charity place are not eligible to enter the Club Challenge

Team logistics (travel, accommodation etc) are still to be worked out, but I anticipate we may need to stay overnight in London before and possibly after the event.

There isn’t long for you to think about this one (entries open tomorrow & will be quickly snapped up). If you are interested in making a team, please contact me ASAP.

Regards

Dave

Dave Buxton

NOMINATIONS HAVE NOW CLOSED

The award will be decided by a ballot of members to be held at the AGM which is at 6:30pm Tuesday 31 January 2017 at Walker & Cutting Ltd, Rawmarsh Road, Rotherham. the result of the ballot will be announced at the 2017 presentation evening at the Carlton Park Hotel on Friday 10 February. It is hoped that as many members as possible will attend the AGM in order to cast their vote in person.

PROXY VOTING

Members who are unable to attend the AGM are able to vote by proxy by forwarding me an email, clearly marked ‘John Atkinson Memorial Trophy’ and showing the name of the person for whom they wish to vote. Proxy voting will close at 17:00 Tuesday 31 January. Votes received after this time will not be counted.

As I have been nominated for the award, in order to ensure the integrity of the ballot, I will not be involved in the voting process and will call for two neutral volunteers to take responsibility for the ballot at the AGM. I will provide the volunteers with an empty ballot box, unmarked ballot papers and hard copies of any proxy votes which have been cast. The volunteers will be responsible for issuing and counting ballot papers and will keep the result confidential until the presentation evening.

I look forward to seeing you at the AGM.

2017 Presentation Evening

Details of the 2017 Presentation Evening at the Carlton Park Hotel, Moorgate Road, Rotherham on Friday 10 February 2017 have previously been published on this website and Facebook and also circulated to members by email.

A non-returnable deposit of £100 has already been paid to Carlton Park from club funds and it is hoped that as last year, a minimum of 40 members and partners will attend the event.

The very last date on which I will be able to accept payment will be Tuesday 31 January (the date of the Annual General Meeting) as I will have to make payment in full to Carlton Park the next day.

I hope that as many members as possible will attend this year’s event, and am certain that some will definitely do so, but I have yet to receive any confirmed bookings and payments and this is becoming a source of concern.

If you intend to attend the Presentation Evening I would be grateful if you could confirm your intentions and let me have your payment at the earliest opportunity.  It will make life much easier for me on the night of the AGM.

The cost of the event is £19.95 per head, price to include three course meal (three choices per course) plus coffee.

Payment may be made by cash or cheque (payable to Rotherham Wheelers Cycling Club) either in person or delivered to my home address, 10 Gillott Lane, Wickersley, S66 1EH.  Alternatively payment may be made electronically to the club account (details available on request).  If you choose to pay electronically, please confirm your booking with me by email.

Please notify me of any special dietary needs with your order.

Last years’s event was planned as a prestige occasion and was very much enjoyed by those who attended. It is hoped to repeat the experience this year and that as many members as possible are able to attend together with wives, husbands or partners. We have already paid a non-returnable deposit for the evening from club funds and require a minimum of 25 people to attend for the event to be a success.

Members wishing to attend should pay £19.95 per head to me no later than Tuesday 31 January (the evening of the AGM). John Atkinson Memorial Trophy

JOHN ATKINSON MEMORIAL TROPHY

John was a much loved and respected Rotherham Wheelers member for many years and sadly passed away in tragic circumstances last year. Several months ago it was suggested that the club should institute a trophy, to be awarded annually on the basis of a ballot of members to the member who is considered to have done the most for the club during the previous year.

The ballot will be held at the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 31 January 2017 commencing at 18:30, details of which have been previously circulated.

It is hoped that the trophy will be presented by a member of John’s family at the annual presentation evening which this year will be at the Carlton Park Hotel, Moorgate Road, Rotherham on Friday 10 February 2017.

Our fellow member Steve Viney has crafted a unique trophy and it is hoped that members will see this as both a lasting memorial to John and a means of recognising the efforts of the member “who is considered to have done most on behalf of the club”.

For the award to have the status which it deserves it is important that ALL members consider making a nomination and that as many members as possible participate in the ballot of members.

The following methodology will apply:

a) Members will be permitted to nominate only one person each, who MUST be either a life, honorary, full, junior or 2nd claim member of Rotherham Wheelers Cycling Club.
b) Nominations should be made either in person or by email to the club secretary by 24:00 Saturday 28 January 2017.
c) On Sunday 29 January 2017 the club secretary will circulate a list of names of nominees to the membership and will prepare ballot papers showing the names of all nominees.
d) The award will be made on the basis of a […]

2017 Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of Rotherham Wheelers Cycling Club will be held at 6:30pm Tuesday 31 January 2017 at Walker and Cutting Ltd, Amber Court Business Centre, Rawmarsh Road, Rotherham, S60 1RU.

In accordance with the club constitution and rules, the business of the meeting will include election of officers (President, Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, Captain and Vice Captain), presentation of accounts and presentation of the annual report. Additionally, members will be appointed to be responsible for the functions of Membership Secretary, Website Manager and Welfare Officer.

Members are asked to consider whether they wish to stand for election as an officer or nominate another member for election as an officer of the club. The names of candidates for the positions of officers may be forwarded to the Acting Secretary prior to the meeting or may be submitted at the meeting.

In order to get the club year off to a good start and to ensure that Rotherham Wheelers continues to develop and reflect the wishes of our members I ask that as many members as possible attend the AGM.

I wish you all a very happy and healthy 2017.

Kind Regards

Dave Buxton
Acting Secretary
