2017 Presentation Evening

ANNUAL PRESENTATION EVENING

The 2017 Annual Presentation Evening will be held at the Carlton Park Hotel, Moorgate Road, Rotherham on Friday 10 February 2017 commencing 19:00 for 19:30.

The evening will follow a similar format to last year, – three course dinner (three choices per course) and coffee followed by presentation of awards. The cost will be £19.95 per head.

Last years’s event was planned as a prestige occasion and was very much enjoyed by those who attended. It is hoped to repeat the experience this year and that as many members as possible are able to attend together with wives, husbands or partners. We have already paid a non-returnable deposit for the evening from club funds and require a minimum of 25 people to attend for the event to be a success.

Members wishing to attend should pay £19.95 per head to me no later than Tuesday 31 January (the evening of the AGM). Payment may be made by cash, cheque payable to ‘Rotherham Wheelers Cycling Club’ or by electronic transfer to the club account (details available from me on request). Cash or cheques may be given to me in person or delivered to my home address, 10, Gillott Lane, Wickersley, Rotherham, S66 1EH.

Any special dietary requirements should be notified to me with your order.

John Atkinson Memorial Trophy

JOHN ATKINSON MEMORIAL TROPHY

John was a much loved and respected Rotherham Wheelers member for many years and sadly passed away in tragic circumstances last year. Several months ago it was suggested that the club should institute a trophy, to be awarded annually on the basis of a ballot of members to the member who is considered to have done the most for the club during the previous year.

The ballot will be held at the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 31 January 2017 commencing at 18:30, details of which have been previously circulated.

It is hoped that the trophy will be presented by a member of John’s family at the annual presentation evening which this year will be at the Carlton Park Hotel, Moorgate Road, Rotherham on Friday 10 February 2017.

Our fellow member Steve Viney has crafted a unique trophy and it is hoped that members will see this as both a lasting memorial to John and a means of recognising the efforts of the member “who is considered to have done most on behalf of the club”.

For the award to have the status which it deserves it is important that ALL members consider making a nomination and that as many members as possible participate in the ballot of members.

The following methodology will apply:

a) Members will be permitted to nominate only one person each, who MUST be either a life, honorary, full, junior or 2nd claim member of Rotherham Wheelers Cycling Club.
b) Nominations should be made either in person or by email to the club secretary by 24:00 Saturday 28 January 2017.
c) On Sunday 29 January 2017 the club secretary will circulate a list of names of nominees to the membership and will prepare ballot papers showing the names of all nominees.
d) The award will be made on the basis of a […]

2017 Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of Rotherham Wheelers Cycling Club will be held at 6:30pm Tuesday 31 January 2017 at Walker and Cutting Ltd, Amber Court Business Centre, Rawmarsh Road, Rotherham, S60 1RU.

In accordance with the club constitution and rules, the business of the meeting will include election of officers (President, Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, Captain and Vice Captain), presentation of accounts and presentation of the annual report. Additionally, members will be appointed to be responsible for the functions of Membership Secretary, Website Manager and Welfare Officer.

Members are asked to consider whether they wish to stand for election as an officer or nominate another member for election as an officer of the club. BMX track opening – Bob Mason Sports Ground, Wickersley 28:10:16

Wickersley Parish Council recently upgraded the BMX cycle track on the Bob Mason Recreation Ground, Sorby Way, Wickersley which will be officially opened between 12:00 and 16:00 Friday 28 October 2016.  We were recently approached by the Clerk to Wickersley Parish Council who has asked if RWCC members would be interested in using the event to promote our club and cycling as a sport.  WPC will provide a gazebo in case of inclement weather.  All we are asked to do is to a exhibit a few of our bikes and chat to visitors.

I have already agreed to help and am looking for a couple of volunteers who are willing to come along and assist.  If you wish to assist, please give me a ring on 07751 518488.

Rotherham Town Centre Cycle Event

Many thanks to all who helped with or took part in the Rotherham Town Centre Cycle Event. Undoubtedly there were some things which could be improved for next time, but early feedback from competitors and council officials has been very positive. There is no doubt that people enjoyed themselves and we succeeded in our aim of raising the profile of cycling and the reputation of Rotherham Wheelers.

We intend to debrief the event with our partners in the near future and would welcome feedback from competitors and officials. If you wish to provide feedback (positive or critical), please forward to me by email at your convenience.

Once again, many thanks to all of you.

Best Wishes
Dave Buxton
